MASH Makes Biofuel

The carbon-negative drop-in solution for shipping

Our biofuel is designed to tackle some of the toughest challenges in decarbonising industries like shipping and heavy industry—sectors that are notoriously hard to green. It's carbon-negative and can be used right away with existing infrastructure, meaning companies don't have to worry about costly upgrades or new equipment. With a major vessel trial lined up with global shipping giant DS Norden, we're gearing up to make a big impact on the future of energy.

Where can you use our fuel?

For marine use

Available to be used as a dual-purpose additive for methanol, achieving both vastly improved ignition properties and a dramatic reduction in overall blend greenhouse gas (GHG) emission.

At 23%, this additive will allow for the operation of methanol in slow and medium-speed 4-stroke engines with few or no modifications needed. The fuel will soon be certified under the ISCC EU and reach standard.

For blending with methanol

For boiler use

MASH fuel has been operated in burners, marine boilers and industrial furnaces. The fuel has demonstrated reliable consistent operation.

MASH fuel is nearly compliant with various fuel oil specs including ISO8217: 2005, BS 2869:2010, ASTM d396- 18a, IS-MV2, and ASTM d975 10 (Grand 4D).
MASH fuel blended with methanol on a Blend of B23 and B58 has been operated on a regular diesel engine. The high-quality pyrolysis fuel acts as a combustion enhancement and has shown that it can make regular diesel engines operate when mixed with methanol, without any upgrade requirements.

When using the MASH additive, the fuel blend will be improved in terms of Autoignition temperature, Cetane Enhancement, Lubricity, Calorific value, Maximum Rate of Heat Release etc. With this groundbreaking approach, shipowners interested in using methanol can completely avoid the CAPEX expenditure of diesel to methanol engine modifications. MASH fuel can be blended in Methanol and directly operated in diesel engines.

Use in blending with methanol

The use of methanol is growing in the shipping Industry. Companies have ordered multiple new methanol plants. Methanol has several combustion challenges, because of its poor ignition quality. MASH oil can be blended perfectly fine with methanol and improve the combustion properties. While at the same time significantly improving the CO2 footprint of the overall fuel blend.

Benefits

Calorific Value

The calorific value is 40 MJ/kg while the methanol calorific value is 22 MJ/kg, meaning it is more energy dense.

Solubility

Strong miscibility in all blend ratios of methanol

Auto Ignition Temperature

The auto ignition temperature of methanol is 440C and of our oil is 350 C. Meaning it enhances ignition properties.

Use of Pyrolysis oil as a burner fuel

The pyrolysis oil can be used in its pure form in burners, boilers and industrial furnaces. In these systems the requirement is relatively low (as compared to marine engine requirements).

There are some fuel oil standards on which MASH oil complies on all points.

Advanced biofuel - a high-quality alternative to furnace fuels

Our biofuel has been validated extensively as a direct GHG friendly alternative to traditional furnace fuels.
With a high energy content of 36.5-40.25 MJ/kg and a low sulphur content, it meets both technical compliance and emissions restrictions.

Benefits

Cleaner burning

With ultra-low sulfur content (ULSO <0.01wt%), low ash content (Ash <0.1 wt%), and low moisture content (water <2%).

Output increase

With a high energy density of 36.5 - 40.25 MJ/kg more heat is produced per unit of fuel compared to traditional fuels.

Permanence

With a quality and performance maintained over 700 days (99.95% consistency) it can be stored for extended periods without degradation

Simplicity

With viscosity at 50 C of 45-80 cSt and a flash point of >67 C handling and storing is simple without any special equipment

Why MASH Advanced Biofuel?
